Introducing NewCo Shift Forum, and Our 5th Annual Bay Area Festival

By

NewCo Shift readers –

The first month of 2017 is coming to a close, and we’ve been busy publishing stories that outline the trends are reshaping business, politics, and culture. As always, thank you for reading — we’ve broken well past 50,000 followers (WOW!!) and are coming off our biggest month ever in traffic. It seems you particularly liked Peter Lyden’s positive take on why Trump isn’t the beginning of an era, but rather, the end. Clearly, you’re an optimistic bunch. We are too.

NewCo has been hard at work getting ready for February, which is shaping up to be our biggest month ever for events. I’m writing to you today to let you know why: from February 6 to 9, we’ll be hosting multiple events across the Bay Area. If you’re in the area (or want to experience the Bay area at its finest), we’d love for you to join us.

Shift Forum: This is our publication’s editorial voice come to life. Capitalism is at a crossroads, and in these unprecedented times of technological change — not to mention regulatory and political uncertainty — companies are starting to rethink the role of the corporation in society. They’re increasingly focused on more than just their bottom line. The first step in finding a way forward is conversation. That’s our plan at the Shift Forum, an executive conference from Feb 6th to 8th at the St. Regis Hotel in San Francisco. We’re bringing together senior corporate, startup, and policy leaders for two days of extraordinary dialog. To name a few: Steph Curry, Valerie Jarrett, John Podesta, Adena Friedman, Robert Reich, Michael Dubin, Fred Wilson, Brad Smith, and many, many more (we’re also the only high level business conference we’ve ever seen that has a speaker lineup at gender parity). The event is under Chatham House Rule, which means that you’ll have to be present to take part in these conversations and learn from these extraordinary leaders. Interested? Learn more here. (Non profit and startup discounts available, limited press passes.)

Bay Area Festival: We’re also hosting our 5th annual Bay Area Festival from the 6th to 9th, and it’s going to be our biggest festival to date. Over a hundred innovative, mission-driven companies across San Francisco, Oakland, and San Jose will be opening their doors to attendees and telling their stories. Visit companies that are putting purpose at the core of what they do, including: Earnest, Honor, Slack, AltSchool, and a ton more. Learn more here.

MasterClasses: We’re also doing something new this year: a hands-on workshop day for attendees, with sessions on growth marketing, UX design, and startup leadership. Held on Feb 6th at the St. Regis Hotel, this is an opportunity to learn directly from founders, CEOs and specialists at the most innovative companies in the Bay Area. They’re small, interactive classes with actionable advice and case studies. Choose among 15 sessions, and either stick to one industry track or mix and match however you’d like. Learn more about the speakers and how to sign up here.

Since we started NewCo five years ago, and now with Shift, which is not yet a year old, our goal has been to connect and celebrate the positive engines of change in our society, and bring people closer to the purpose-driven businesses that are changing capitalism for the better. We’re really excited for the inspiring companies and speakers that will be participating at all of these events — and we’d love to see you there too.

My best,

John Battelle, Co-Founder & EIC, NewCo
